Give-Away #1

Just as a little recap, I’m doing three give-aways in honor of my 1000th blog post and my 8th anniversary of blogging.

Originally I was just going to do one, and I approached Kylie, who makes amazing jewelry, with the idea. She jumped on board. When I told my brother and sister-in-law about it, Matt volunteered to paint a watercolor. I immediately said YES! And then I thought that I needed at least one more give-away because all good things come in threes. Why not give away something of my own? So to get this week of celebrations started, I’ve decided to give away….

1 8×10 print of one of my photos

or, for the indecisive

2 5×7 prints of two of my photos

To be honest, I feel a little sheepish about this since I know I’m not a professional photographer. But I wanted to share something that I really enjoy and a way that I express myself. Of course, you are free to choose any that you like, but here are some of my favorites.

Liberty Park in the Snow

Mountains on the San Juan Skyway

Tulips at Pike’s Place Market

Houses in the French Quarter

Sunset over the North Shore of Lake Pontchartrain

Or there are also lots of photos you can view at flickr. (Although, I haven’t uploaded anything there recently. I always forget about flickr, but I wish I knew how to use it better.)

So what do you have to do to win this amazing prize?

That’s super easy! You just have to leave a comment on this blog telling me how much you love my blog about one of your favorite hobbies or places to photograph by Sunday, April 29th at midnight.  On Monday, I will announce the winners for all three of the give-aways. And don’t worry, you can enter each one of the give-aways. In fact, I really hope you do!

p.s. Even if you’ve never left a comment before, please feel free to do so now. I absolutely LOVE getting comments! They always make my day. F’reals. And even though I love getting comments on facebook, too, only comments on this blog post will be entered for the give-away. Good luck!

pick me pick me! favorite hobbies: reading cookbooks. sounds kinda crazy, but it’s really one of my most favorite things to do. i can make a meal over and over again in my head while reading it and no calories are consumed!!! yay! thanks for the giveaway. if i’m the winner, i’ll have a hard time choosing the photo because i love so many of them!

WoW! You are semi-professional! Those pictures are beautiful. I love to photograph children. I used to photograph my students all the time. I didn’t have a digital then. I used my (ancient) manual camera. I think my old camera captured light better. I loved how the pictures turned out. The children were so free of inhibitions and expressive. And I do love your blog, but you know that:)

I’ll take your photography any day! I looooove my calendar of your photos so much! My favorite things to photograph are definitely flowers and trees or anything scenic and lovely. Nothing feels greater either when you can capture children’s happy expressions! I love it when I can do that. 🙂

My fav hobby is planning. Work projects, house projects, parties, vacations, events. I love the entire process. Thinking of all the challenges, creating the budget, listing the materials, prioritizing the tasks, doing all of the research and compiling it all in a tidy way. I’m better at planning than executing, for sure. I have a business plan I continue to tweak, knowing I’ll never have the guts to follow through with it, but I can’t stop obsessing over perfecting it!

I would love to win any (all?!) of the three of the giveaways! It would be hard to narrow down which print to pick of yours!

Favorite hobbies lately include photography, sewing, crocheting, and cross-stitching. Favorite places to photograph include the Salt Lake City public library, Trolley Square, and pretty much anywhere outside when the sky is cloudy and grey.

(Just re-read my comment. Please excuse the horrible grammar! Cringe.)

Hmmmmm, my favorite pastimes are cooking and baking. I spend hours reading cookbooks and cooking blogs and making lists of all the recipes I want to try. I love feeding people and being in the kitchen totally helps me relax. And then I love taking pictures of said food items. Fun and delicious! Pick me, pick me!!!!

These are gorgeous Katie! Seeing photos like these inspire me to learn more about photography, especially so I can take great pictures of my kids. One thing I really enjoy is cooking and I am really interested and trying to eat a more healthful diet right now, so I have been spending a lot of time watching health documentaries and researching and finding new recipes online. I also love anything outdoors. I love waterskiing, boating, skiing, hiking, camping etc. 🙂

    I love your blog, Katie!

Oh my gosh, Katie. I don’t know much about photography–I just know your pictures look amazing. I am so impressed. Hard to pick a favorite–right off the back I really love the houses in the French Quarter.

Hobbies? If going to movies or Target doesn’t count, then reading YA novels and making things are my favorite hobbies.

Your photos are breath taking! My favorite past times are updating my personal log of my 19 month old sons milestones and capturing candid pics during the times spent with my fam!

I’m not just commenting because I want your photos (though who wouldn’t want them??) but I want you to know that yours is the one and ONLY blog I frequent. I love your photos and normal, real life musings. So, happy anniversary!!
I mostly take photos of my kids these days, but I also like the plants, bushes and trees in my neighborhood.

I am breaking out the first, official, non-text, non-fb, non-twitter comment on your blog because I’m fixin to win one of these prizes! Clearly I have to comment on what I like to photograph on this one. Before I get too specific, I’ve realized I tend to photograph things without people present, and then it often looks like I went traveling to these empty places all by myself! I tend to photograph a lot of architecture, and I use that loosely. I freak out over FLW buildings, cemeteries, fences, gates, brickwork, all that. Every so often I become fixated on shadows of things or a small detail as well. The Gemini in me then comes out, and I move to large expanses and city skylines. It never seems to be anything in between 🙂

Uh, knitting. Yeah. Obsessive over it still. Can I get all hipster about it and say that I liked it before it was cool? 😉

I admitted to you last week that I am a regular blog stalker of yours. My favorite thing about your blog, even though sometimes there are more pictures than words (which isn’t a bad thing, especially because your photos are amazing) are your words. You weave a sentence together very magically my friend.
Hmmm . . . Sadly, most of my hobbies are very unhealthy (reading all night long, eating way too much, staying up too late watching tv) and thus I don’t like to claim them as true hobbies until I learn some moderation. One hobby and item I like to claim however, is being a mom. Lame, I know, but my kids are my world and their smiles are worth more to me than all the treasures of the world. They are really the only thing I photograph lately as well.

If I won, I would have to choose the Pikes Market one because I love Seattle. Your photos are amazing.
I love to can food. There is something satisfying about taking the best summer has to offer and bottling it up to brighten a day in winter.

    Wow, you’re a good photographer!

Congratulations sweet friend, on this very big blog milestone. Funny that you were blogging years before most people even knew what that word was.

I’m loving all of these images! You are an exceptional photo taker! I especially love the one of the shuttered houses in the French Quarter. Windows and doors are one of my favorite things to photograph here in England.

I just randomly came across your blog and I’m so glad there are other Utah bloggers out there. 🙂 Favorite hobby right now is Yoga. I used to do martial arts and was very flexible. By doing Yoga I get to relax, get a gentle workout, and work on my flexibility.
