Down a Long Road I Stumbled

I’m still listening to a lot of the albums from NPR’s top 50. This week, I listened to M. Ward’s Hold Time. I have always been a big M. Ward fan, but my problem with new albums is that as soon as I start listening to them, I always want to listen to my favorite songs from past albums. They’re just so comfortable and familiar. I have to remind myself that they were once unfamiliar, though, and the new album will one day be familiar, too. This is one of the songs that has drawn me in to Hold Time and makes me want to listen to it again.

M. Ward: Epistemology

p.s. It was 2 years ago this month that my friend Tom (hi Tom!) and I drove up to Chicago to see M. Ward in concert. And then drove through a blizzard on the way home. I’m glad there’s no blizzards this January, but we did have a patch of ice outside the church parking lot yesterday and I had to scrape off my car this morning. Ugh… winter.

Those were the days! That show still ranks in my top 3 bestest shows ever–and was only punctuated (with an exclamation point) by the numerous cars we drove past that had slid off of I-65 littering the shoulders and median. A grand way to listen to the New Pornographers: at speed, in dark, hurtling homeward.

I love comments! Seriously, they make my day. Thanks for contributing to the conversation!
